Halifax Accountants Welcome New Director
Halifax-based chartered accountancy firm Lambert Roper & Horsfield Limited has appointed a new director, who at just 29 has already spent more than a decade at the firm.
Sam Mitchell became a director on 15 April. This allowed Denise Thornton to retire from her directorship in the company on the same day, allowing her to work solely for sister firm LRH Wealth Management Ltd.
Sam joined the firm in 1998 as a 16-year-old accounts trainee and after initially qualifying with the Association of Accounting Technicians, he qualified as a chartered accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) in June 2005, achieving first time passes and being in the top five in West Yorkshire for the professional stage. He subsequently progressed to positions including audit senior and audit and accounts manager.
In his new role, Sam will work with a client portfolio of primarily owner-managed businesses, from start-ups to businesses with a £10 million turnover, providing advice on issues including audit, corporate finance and tax.
Sam says: “I was good at maths at school, but joining Lambert Roper & Horsfield was really a case of falling into accountancy. By the time I started working towards qualification with the ICAEW, I had no doubts that this was the right career in the right firm.
“For me, the best part of the job is working with the clients and helping them to succeed. I also enjoy looking at tax issues and helping them to be as tax-efficient as possible.”
Denise, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, joined Lambert Roper & Horsfield in 1989, becoming a partner in 1992, and during the 1990s played a key role in developing LRH Wealth Management. She says: “We are looking to further develop LRH Wealth Management and the changes mean I will be able to devote all my efforts to supporting its expansion.”
Lambert Roper & Horsfield director David Roper said: “We are delighted to welcome Sam to the team of directors and his appointment underlines the way we are building for the future of Lambert Roper & Horsfield. Denise’s experience and knowledge of LRH Wealth Management will also be a real asset as we strengthen that side of the business.”
